New Yankee Ridge Mascot

Yankee Ridge recently held a school-wide election to adopt a mascot. Students were given the opportunity to make suggestions. They also wrote about WHY they thought their idea would be a good mascot for Yankee Ridge. A committee of staff and parents then narrowed the list down to 4 choices: the Yankee Ridge Dragons, Owls, Tiger Sharks and Wolves. Students and staff then voted and, with 54% of the vote, the Yankee Ridge Wolves won!

Several students suggested the wolves, so it was no surprise when the idea won the vote.  Some of the reasons students gave for wolves as the mascot: “We’re like a pack!”; “Because the students are swift, agile and quick learners.”; “Wolves are strong like us.”; “Wolves are usually in packs, but they do just fine on their own, symbolizing cooperation and independence.”; “Wolves come in many different colors and sizes…yet they still form a pack regardless of these differences, demonstrating racial justice and equality.”; and “I like wolves and they are cool and I want to be cool.”
