Welcome To Urbana

The Board of Education approved Stacie Smith as the Assistant Principal at Thomas Paine Elementary.

Board of Education Goals

The Board reviewed their goals for the year and identified several topics they would like to explore. These include conducting a Superintendent search and reviewing intergovernmental agreements that will soon expire with Promise for the School Health Center and the Urbana Park District for the Aquatic Center.

Board members also selected the committees they will serve on throughout the year.

Tiger Academy/Alternative Education

Tiger Academy served 48 high school students last school year. This alternative education program provides low staff/student ratio, fewer peer distractions, and individualized schedules in a supportive environment. All of the students in the Tiger Academy program have long term goals and case plans tailored to their individual needs.

Academics
  • During the 2025-26 school year, the number of students on track for graduation increased by 30 percent from semester 1 to semester 2.
  • Nine students graduated
  • 81 percent of students improved their overall GPA from Fall 2025 to Spring 2026.

2026-27 School Year
This school year, the plan is to increase the number of high school students served at Tiger Academy.

For middle school students, an extension of the daytime program will be housed at Urbana Middle School. The staff and start date for this program is still to be determined.

For multilingual learners, Tiger Academy staff plan to continue increasing newcomer ESL classes and support for multilingual learners who need additional support.
